Dr. Hank Blissenbach, Pharm D.

    Dr. Blissenbach graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy where he earned his Pharm.D. degree. Upon graduating, he practiced pharmacy for nearly fifteen years at United and Children’s Hospitals of St. Paul, where he led the genesis of decentralized pharmacists and clinical pharmacists practicing in the patient care areas. It was at United Hospitals where he also precepted an ASHP Clinical Residency Program.

    In 1986, Hank joined United HealthCare, Inc. (now UnitedHealth Group, Inc.) and was part of the beginning of the Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) movement. He served as president of United Healthcare’s PBM, Diversified Pharmaceutical Services (DPS). While at DPS, he became one of the founding fathers of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacists (AMCP). He also served on numerous pharmaceutical company advisory boards and has published several papers; he was also a contributing author to The Managed Care Healthcare Handbook. In

    1997, he joined Chronimed, Inc., a specialty pharmacy company, where he served as the President, CEO, and Chairman. In 2004, he merged Chronimed with an East Coast specialty pharmacy company to form BioScrip, where he continued as CEO. After retiring in 2006, Hank served as Interim CEO and Chair of Ligand, Inc., a pharmaceutical company based in San Diego, California. He then formed Osprey Enterprises, a healthcare consulting and investment company of which he is currently president and chairman. A long time advocate and supporter of individuals with disabilities, Hank has served as a member, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Opportunity Partners, a non-profit organization that serves the life skills training and placement needs of persons with developmental disabilities.
